As I heard it, the lashing looks worse than it feels, due to the large amounts of blood being splattered all over.

Before they lash them selves, flagellants have cuts made on their backs with razor blades for maximum effect

Not exactly. They use what you call a Tabad. Basically, it’s a paddle with rows of sharp razor-like glass shards. That’s what they use in Cutud.
And yes, if any of you heard of a Finnish guy getting himself whipped in Cutud, I was with him.
