Glen has a valid point. Fare is cheaper than fuel. Riding a taxi is less stressful than riding a car. I’d rather fall asleep on my ride to work than end up in the office haggard from road rage. Don’t want to get mugged? Then don’t show off with the coño wares if you want to ride the jeep or bus and just be like “everyone else”.
Either way, you will still be subjected to the one of the greatest social controls – the Green-Eyed monster
The fact someone will want to covet a part of your wealth and will resort to theft, robbery, assault or even homicide to get it will make not want to flaunt it.
But a car will put you more closely under the power of abusive cops and traffic aides and potential scammers like fuel companies and some auto mechanics
– Red/orange cars are the first the MMDA will pull over because they are the most visible.
– Bright colors for small cars and sedans, because they are small and should be spotted easily, especially at night.
– Your moms would prefer red cars because it will match their mani/pedi.
come to think of it, who in beerkada owns a car? allan? I know harry has his vtecleta. jimmy (of all characters!) has a car when he drove fe to the hospital. bryan rides the MRT (girl spotting and hook-ups). jay has a segway.
If you have the money (or don’t, but feel like you do) then buy a car and feel self-righteous about your sense of convenience.
If you’re frugal-minded, take the jeep (or bus) and feel self-righteous about saving money you’ll lose one way or the other. Oh, and you’re also doing your tiny tiny share for saving this planet.
Jam: I ride when I can. Ultimately, it’s a matter of whatever is more convenient at the moment.
Tora: Bah. People will steal anything. That’s not a reason to get/not to get a car. And you REALLY sound like someone who’s justifying that fact that he can’t afford a car.
Kenneth: Where do you fit in? Those who walk?
Everyone: Seriously, WTF?!? Until the day comes that local public transportation is as efficient as it is in HK or in Singapore, there will ALWAYS be an argument for having your own car. At the same time, there’s nothing wrong if you guys are commuting. I’ve been on both sides of the fence, and there are advantages and trade-offs for both. STOP JUSTIFYING YOURSELVES.
Well, I’m bloody sick of all the hypocrisy! Most of those extolling the wonders of commuting would trade all that in a second if a) They had a car in the first place, and b) they can afford to gas it up.
SERIOUSLY, what kind of a reason for not buying a car is “Someone might steal it”?!? Newsflash: you’re more likely to get your cellphone stolen first, but I’ve never heard of anyone not buying one because some bastard might snatch it.
Man up, people. Nobody’s judging you for not having a car, so stop defending yourselves!
FYI, I go both ways. Since I live near EDSA, it’s sometimes more convenient to hop on a bus or MRT to QC, Ortigas, or Makati. But try telling me I don’t need a car when your fiancee decides she wants to buy a month’s worth of groceries at Megamall at 6pm before dropping by Tiende for dinner.
The only reason I find it more convenient to take the car is because of my schedule (4pm-1am) and the fact that it’s hard to find buses to and from work because of that schedule. Delikado pa. FYI, I live in Cavite and work in Manila. If it were otherwise, I would be commuting. I only mentioned those car tips for anyone who might be looking for a new/not new car.
Amen to that, L
Driving and Loaded Guns don’t mix
Tora: Isn’t that why they made the game Grand Theft Auto?
IRL, it doesn’t.
if it weren’t election season, I’d imagine Chompy’s Dad bringing his shotgun in the glove compartment

Morgerus: I used to think like that once. Back when I didn’t have a car.
I have a car, but I still think like that.

Commuting leaves you under the power of abusive drivers and potential scammers. Having a car = freedom to navigate

I’m a rider, btw.
Kung violence lang din naman ang pag-uusapan, gano karaming public bus/jeep ang nahoholdap sa isang araw? Pati na rin mga taxi.

For the feeling of security, get an SUV. At least, that’s what my Dad says.
Eize nothing says security like a ten wheeler truck 😛
Walang security yan, Jiro. Palaging hinuhuli ng pulis for kotong.
