LoL It’s really funny considering that Carlo Caparas is busting his gut because of BenCab’s reaction to his becoming a National Artist. That BenCab wasn’t known outside of a ‘certain university’ but his name is known all over the philippines. Which shows clearly how unsuited he really is for the honor
While Direk Carlo J has considerable contributions to the Komiks industry and his works for said medium have been translated into films and teleseryes, that medium isn’t taken seriously.
If it were, then Larry Alcala (Mang Ambo, Asyong Aksaya) , Mars Ravelo (Darna, Capt Barbell) and Antonio Velasquez (Kenhgkoy) would have been nominated or be named National Artists years before.
Direk carlo J’s work for films, specifically his biopics and massacre movies are just plain campy.and in my view ridicule the persons and events portrayed
Carlo J was nominated for the “AND Visual Arts” when he didn’t even illustrate any of the komiks. Write, yes. Drawn, hell NO.
Basically, he’s not qualified since he didn’t even draw them.
And for the Film part? Was he nominated for speed-filming in 7 days per movie?
Direk Carlo J calls us his detractors as ‘Burgis’ people who aren’t in touch with the tastes of the masa. One has to ask though what his Massacre films have in terms of value art wise. My dad says we’ve got to give him credit for trying to revive the ‘komiks’ culture which was used by the masa to learn how to read.
Jiro – then he should be honored in Literature. However, the NCCA junked that nomination too.
i was furious when he showed himself on startalk with the question

a true artist never live for glory but for the passion of the craft…

CJC’s biggest fan is himself. if he makes national artist, why aren’t the Apo Hiking Society national artists for music?

Just so people know…CJC’s “revival” of the comics industry by releasing P10 comics was NOT HIS ORIGINAL IDEA!!!

erm, do guys remember, that the friggin masa don’t understand what culture is. For them, TV is the closest they get to the opera and komix, the their mona lisa…
k let’s not put down the masa that much. I’m sure they just lack exposure to the real thing. Maybe a telenovela that focuses on paintings like what they did for Nodame Cantabile visavis classical music?
