Tenk: yeah, many do. Hence the term ‘caveat emptor’. And it’s not the suppliers’ fault either. most big supermarkets have lazy warehouse personnel who bury the old stock and keep sending out the newer ones, tapos when it hits the expiry mark, sinosoli nila yung stock, plus, they charge a ‘storage fee’ pa sa supplier. and since the imported stuff is harder to return and stricter ang contracts ng foreign suppliers, the supermarkets have no choice but to try to sell the expired stock, they try to sneak them in with the fresh stock, and if di naubos, thats when they discount the price.
that’s only the tip of the iceberg. here in Davao, most large supermarkets will extort money from the suppliers as support whenever there are any events being held. aside from the usual display allowance and entry fee they charge the suppliers.
Anton: it’s the same nationwide. My head aches everytime those supermarkets announce their sales and promos. We’ve even got a few customers who are so kapal that they have no qualms asking for solicitations worth more than their monthly order.
i know! people these days are …….. anyway, i found a buy 1 take 1 whipped cream. when me and my mom saw the expiry date it was nov. 2007. 2007. eeewwwwwwwwww. and i thought muntikan na!
I hear supermarkets sell ther expired goods with the new ones, and they don’t bother giving discounts for them.
EW!
is this story inspired by the ones circulated in emails where the cadburry chocolates already have molds?
