I think what’s uncommon is eating ‘pasta’ together with rice, the way we eat pancit together with rice. Which is different from eating pasta first, then rice next.
Has anybody tried neapolitan spaghetti? The thai version actually sauteing the pasta first before adding the sauce.. here’s the recipe for their sauce:
Tomato sauce
chicken broth
diced chicken breasts
holy basil
oregano
black pepper, and not the dried ones.
carrots
onion (bulb and spring)
* boil chicken in chicken broth, add the herbs and stir in low heat until the broth thins down and add tomato sauce.
Errr… My mother actually puts hotdogs whenever she cooks pancit. I don’t like it either. The color created by the hotdog to the pancit kinda not suited for me. Actually, pinoy just love adding hotdogs whenever possible; Adobo, Menudo, Caldereta, Sopas, if possible, one might actually try to add hotdog in Sinigang… Errr… am I still on the topic?
CORN!!! Does anyone suggest subituting corn to rice?
S2Chard: most of the local low-income class here in Cebu prefer having corn grits rather than rice as their staple. Mas busog nga daw. Our household help prefer it to rice. Kaso lang, the prices of corn grits have gone up along with the price of rice. a 50-kilo sack of corn grits jumped from P840/sack to P1100/sack within the last 3 weeks!
Rice to ramen? That reminds me.. Since I love to eat but don’t particularly like cooking.. I would also add rice to instant noodles for a more filling meal 😀
I suspect, during a post-apocalyptic world, where the remnants of humanity are huddled over a fading camp fire inside a ruined city, they turn towards the elder for stories about the ancients, and they will hear, besides tales of people talking halfway around the world and men walking on the moon, stories of whole societies whose problem is there is too MUCH food.
And they will lick their lips in envy, having eaten cockroaches and moss all their miserable lives.
As a foresight, we should all start planting our own kamote. Just in case. 😉
Hmmm… just got an idea that might be a good follow-up storyline, “synthetic rice”.
You remind of my late Father who once ate spaghetti with rice.
I’m planning an experiment wherein I would replace kamote as my key source of carbo
who adds hotdog sa pancit?!
kamote? the magical fruit?
the more you eat, the more you toot?
eastydie: i KNOW. its like an evil subculture. like emo. or arashi fans.
Mary: I’d rather plant potatoes..
Leo: Double carbs. wow. But kamote as replacement? Uhh.. See Lyndon’s comment above :p
Eastydie: No one that I know of. L’s just paranoid.
LYNDON: We Arashi fans are not an evil subculture! Grrr… Chomps ka sa akin mamaya!!!!
How about patatas?
OK, my ISP bleeped up on me in that last post. Anyway, how abut potatoes instead of rice? Mashed potatoes, french fries, hash browns…
bread could be used as a substitute… pero iba tlga ang dating ng kanin sa ulam…
did somebody just said the magic word, carbo? My dietitian ruled it off me… boohoo
hahaha.
i saw this on the paper and just haaad to read it here. the tagalog version is much more better.
mas may dating yung sinabi ni chompy sa tagalog. XD
Rice and spaghetti…
Pancit with rice natry ko na, pero rice and spaghetti… o.O

^ Heavy na masyado yun!
buti nde nag tinginingining si chompy… hehe
lol… pancit with hotdogs is like a spaghetti with vegetables…

AHA! The elusive pancit-hotdog hybrid has surfaced! My paranoid claims have been justified!
are kikiam and fishball part of the original recipe in making pancit?
For rice and spaghetti, or rice and pasta, try the Little China Box at the small food stalls in front of the grocery in Megamall. ^_^

This rice shortage will equal to skinnier Filipinos.
This ought to help my diet.

Pancit + Hotdog
