I was checking out the NHK channel in Global Destiny when it struck me how similar (as well as dull) it is to PTV 4, the Philippines government-owned station. And then I realized that NHK, and all the foreign channels, are OWNED by the governments of their respective countries!
That’s why the shows are so boring!
That’s why cable TV can afford to broadcast them!
Ahhhhh!
AHHHHH!
I think you noticed too that RPN 9, a government-controlled station, has the rights to Crime And Suspense. The shows are not boring, but we STILL don’t have any viewership. O_O
I love Crime and Suspense! 😀
Chompy: ditto
A big EH?!I’ve been watching NHK as part of my Japanese language studies and it helped me a lot. There are some shows on NHK that are entertaining like they feature enka and Noh dramas which i now study it seriously, scientific agriculture(they also feature UPLB gardens!) and some JPop music videos hosted by pretty Okinawan pop artist melody.I don’t think NHK is dull and boring. It’s just some people don’t understand japanese and their culture at all in general. All they understand(especially the majority of Filipinos nowadays) are anime and ninjas not their astheticisms.Sheeesh.Oh yeah,as a multilingual, i can read, speak and write Japanese as well as French and Italian.
yes, but can you read THIS?

Well excuse me.. As a lay man trying to immerse myself with Japanese culture (through TV) NHK just doesn’t cut it. Sure not all shows are booring.. and if one really wants to study Japanese, it offers a good venue for listening and watching Japanese people.
Sure enka and noh are part of Japanese culture but do you realize that not even many of the japanese like it?
I think you’re missing the point of comparison here, being, tv shows at government owned stations are mostly toned down, public service, cultural shows. Sure there might be a sprinkle of some good shows here and there but they are so few and far in between.
Shucks.. I speak and write fluent Fiipino and English.. I think that makes me a multi-lingual too.. as with most Filipinos, and almost the rest of the world, compared to the meager monolingual speakers in the world.
naunahan ako ni ms. lei! shucks.
zee premire’s the best! 😀
