Dana Orosco, daughter of Ryan Orosco and Rose Orosco, was baptised last July 5, 2008 in Immaculate Conception Parish, National Shrine of Our lady of Peace and Good Voyage, Antipolo City.

Now she is obligated to strike humble poses in front of religious locations, in place of kawaii poses.

Congrats, Dana!

Bizarre products

Chompy and I saw this unusual product while shopping for groceries.

Cholesterol in a jar.

What’s more unusual is the product besides it.

Placenta in a jar.

I half-expected a tub of stem cells right below it.

Last Saturday in beautiful UP Bahay ng Alumni, two talented artists/crazy kids finally tied the knot. Jon Zamar (Minsan) and Syeri Baet (Carpool) became man and wife in front of the friends and families.

Will their comics now be called Minsan sa Carpool? Will their future kids get a hefty dose of artistic genes? Will Megatrade Hall host JonSyeriCon2009?

Abangan!

And congrats to you two.

The Crypt of Civilization

Anyone who’s ever read anything about the Great Library of Alexandria (especially those who played Sid Meier’s Civilization 2) would always be reminded about the wealth of ancient knowledge we lost when it was destroyed. Science writers always speculated how we could have shortened the duration of the Dark Ages if the contents of the Library was somehow preserved. (This is a bias, because eastern civilizations were flourishing as Europe took steps backwards at this time. Stupid white men…)

Ever since reading about the Great Library, I wondered time and again if current policy makers have thought of ways to prevent this massive information loss from happening again. That somewhere in the world today, the collective knowledge of humanity has been stored in an underground bunker so that future civilizations would have a backup in case of some societal systems crash aka apocalypse.

And then I read about The Crypt of Civilization. And some part of me breathe a sigh of relief.

All we have to do now is build more backup systems. And update them often.

Toycon 2008

Toycon2008 is another jam-packed affair in the tradition of Toycon 2007 and 2006. The artists’ corner is at the Megatrade Hall side furthest from the middle, and we were mere meters from the food section. The aroma of grilled Hungarian sausage wafted past us all day. How come we artists always seem to get positioned next to the food section?

Besides the usual gang of the Artist’s Den, Taga-Ilog, and Joanah, we were also besides Jomike Tejido, who was displaying his Foldabots collection (as seen from K-Zone magazine). There was also Manix Abrera with his driftwood constructs.

The New Worlds Alliance sent their delegation of Star Wars stormtroopers and pirates, as well as Jon S. as the Shadow and Mark E. in a Speed Racer costume. Go!

Chompy came in late both days because she was finishing the BearCuddles hats and the doujin,  which is currently in its second issue. Good for you! Her family also managed to visit the convention, and we took pics in front of Heath Ledger’s Joker.

Of course, there were the Beerkadets. Thanks to regulars Ilenz, Oliver, Kai,  secretfan (who shall remain unnamed because if her mom ever finds out she went to Toycon…), Mary, Kuya Jot, Bugoytheman, GXMania, Tinkahbelle, Roachy, Polskie, Ana Ng, and Jaclyn, as well as Nico, Elay, Tey, Matt, Aimee, Ces, Yani’s proxy Aiza, Allen, and all the rest.

The Glen and Chompy plushies were a huge hit, selling out mere hours into the first day, with a lot of disappointed fans having to look forward to the next convention to get their hands on the dolls. Aw. Sorry, boys and girls.

Thanks to Az and the Comics Collectibles for inviting us artists to Toycon2008. See you next year!

I’ll try adding more pics in the forum. See you all there!
