Boopey is nationalistic. She only replicates local designs.
Why should we be embarrassed? The reason Ikea can’t get a foothold here is because, one week after they open shop, we would have replicated every single design, and all of them would be more durable and cheaper too. While you see it as a reason to be embarrassed, I see it as a testament to the skill and craftsmanship of our local workers.

Ariel: I’m talking about our craftsmen. Craftsmen here, as well as abroad, have no need for creativity and artistry. That is not their problem or concern. For them, a chair is a chair, noting more. And that’s okay.
Our designers and artisans, however, are more than capable of matching vision with vision. Goggle up Kenneth Conbonpue and Movement 8, just for starters. I also bet you didn’t know that Filipino furniture is regarded as among the world’s best, and is our 4th biggest export. We obviously cannot compete with the likes of China in terms of quantity and price, so we’re doing it with quality and artistry.
So before you make any general comment about us as pirates, take a good look at yourself and ask yourself how you really see your people. Do you really believe we’re a nation of pirates? Or is that what they taught you to think back in school?

But the “shame on you” bit? I meant that 100%.
Yes, this country is flawed. Yes, we as a people are flawed. But every single nation, people, and race are flawed as well. So what’s the difference? In this country, we delight in pointing out the flaws and laughing at it. It’s like a scab; what happens to scabs when you pick on it? It gets bigger and deeper.
So maybe we would be better off not picking on our collective shortcomings and just focusing on our positive traits. And we can start with not posting stupid, empty, negative statements on comment threads.
Besides, not everybody here has the same bad traits? Are you a copycat? Are you lazy? Do you exhibit crab mentality? Do you hate your country and wish you were white? If not, why should you allow yourself to be lumped with that ugly demographic?
In the end, it’s all about affirmations. If you keep telling a people they’re good for nothing, they might just believe you. But what if you told them the opposite?
