they’re usually done during new year and songkran festival chomps, what they do is create a rectangular cube with a candle receptacle. the hot air collected inside the cube will then lift up the balloon.
Did L just shudder at chompy’s post? I know I did. :-S
Er, chompy make sure you have some good cover when you do this and make sure no flammable materials are around. Best do it in a place least susceptible to burning down, exploding or spontaneously combusting. 😉
Relax, Mary. If there’s something pinoy’s are better at than screwing things up, is surviving disasters. Filipinos are like phoenixes. we rise from the ashes to become better than where we started from. 😀
This reminds me of a wedding I attended in May. We were among those selected by the couple to take part in this sky lantern op between the Mass and the Nomnoms. My friend (with whom I was paired) is a bit of a pyrophobe and was afraid to light the fuse which was to send our paper lantern into the air.
I lit it, but it had a tear that was singed and did not take off to the desired altitude. While it hovered, it nearly landed on a bridesmaid’s head! *gasps*
*LOL* yeah. We filipinos are brilliant mimics, but kind of careless (sometimes) on the little issues like safety and quality control.
haha… funny in a non patriotic way…
L: maybe you can change the title of the event… it can’t be the first lantern festival… bka magalit mga kapampangan fans mo…

l: bka pwede mo baguhin ang title ng event… it can’t be the first lantern festival… you don’t want to alienate your kapampangan fans…
sorry for the double post…
There is a local equivalent to that called the Palobo.
Such festive Hot-Air balloons were even mentioned in Rizal’s novels
It’s the apocalypse! AHHH!
har har har… usually, the flame inside the paper lantern usually dies out after 10 minutes without even touching the paper itself.
Wow, I watched the video, and it looked really great. Do they really float? How is it done?
Leo: Is that still ongoing till now?

pun intended, Mary. btw, did you see L’s post in Airport?
i can imagine how filipino’s would ruin the traditional “holi” festival (in india)… it has something to do with tondo’s boga, hehehe….
I thought it’s called Loy Krathong?
