Ariel Atienza treated the Komikon staff to Teriyaki Boy for his birthday when I noticed that the eyes of TB’s mascot looked eerily similar to Beerkada’s own eye design. So I grabbed everyone’s napkins, replaced them with unprinted tissues, then drew on aforementioned napkins. I had to be creative with Chompy and Harry’s sketches, as these characters did not possess said eye designs.
Thanks *burp*, Ariel!
Philippine Daily Inquirer’s head cartoonist Jess Abrera was able to attend the closing activities of Komikon Summer Fiesta 2009, just in time to bask in the glow of his son Manix Abrera’s successful Alab ng Puso book tour.
Pol Medina, Jr. was also able to launch Book 21 of his Pugad Baboy series. The Komikon team was even able to get him to sign his last-minute endorsement of the event in last Friday’s Pugad Baboy strip in PDI.
Thanks to Beerkadet Dee for helping me in the booth, Porky for trying out for the arm wrestling contest, and Lorie, Tenkouken, and eventual winner Bugoytheman for joining the Komikon Idol, and Targrod, Ana T, Ana, Mary, and the rest of the Beerkadets for attending this summer’s event.
And thanks to every comics artist and comics lover for making Komikon Summer Fiesta a successful event.
Now on to Komikon Prime in October!

My dogs impersonating Hatton after the fight.
OMG! That’s so totally him.
Star Trek is amazing! Great casting, especially for Zachary Quinto as Spocklar. And J.J. Abrams did a near-impossible job of not only pleasing the canon-stringent Trekkies, but balancing the cool moments among an ensemble cast, something that usually needs an entire season in a TV show (I’m looking at you, X-Men).
Of course, Chompy booed Uhura as a hindrance between the bromance that is Kirk and Spock.
I’m coming off a collective experience with the rest of the Via-Astris when we watched it in SM MoA IMAX last Tuesday. After the ho-hum of Watchmen and Wolverine, Star Trek is giving off vibes as the year’s first great film.
Thanks for VA, Paramount Pictures, Solar Films, Fish & Co., and SM MoA for the free food and free movie, and a chance for Trek lovers to hope again after the debacle of Enterprise.
My word. Does this mean a reboot for Trek and the City as well?
It’s been a long road…
